The Great Future of a PhdInComicBooks
Comic books have been around since the 1930’s and they have had a bumpy ride. Superman has gone from selling a million copies a month in the 1940’s to suffering from embarrassingly low sales in the 1980’s (sales so low a revamp of the character was necessary) to a reinvigorated character in the 1990’s thanks to the wild popularity of THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN. Of course, Superman is but one example of a character that has had its ups and downs. And DC Comics is but one company that has had its ups and downs. Thankfully, there have been a few folks out there who have chronicled the history of comic books. But, at one time, their numbers were far and few between.
Back in the 1980’s, other than Ron Goulart’s GREAT HISTORY OF COMIC BOOKS there really was little out there that examined the creators behind the books. THE COMICS JOURNAL did a fine job and continues to do so. In fact, there were the trail blazers that have inspired this blog and a multitude of great blogs and websites that cover the aforementioned great history (and present and future) of comic books.
So, without further adieu….let’s launch this new blog covering our favorite subject.
