Matamoros
Back in the 1940's comic books were loaded with heroes battling the Nazi hordes. Superman, Captain Marvel and, of course, Captain America were legendary for carrying the mantle of the red, white and blue. Well into the 1960's Stan Lee promoted a patriotism in his work that resonated in a somewhat subtle manner. In the 1970's, however, the specter of cynicism started to appear and this has permeated into the modern era. In fact, there are a number of modern books that delve into territory that is anti-American through and through. Ok, fine. That is the author's right as long as there is a line of people to buy the books this sentiment will not remove itself from the comic landscape. This is why it is so refreshing to see Matamoros which is a title that delves into the territory of anti-terrorism themes. This is an upcoming release that I will definitely keep my eyes on.
