IDW's Containment
IDW puts out a lot of cool horror
comics. Of course, their most popular remains the various 30 DAYS OF NIGHT
books but there have been a host of other titles the company has released.
Recently, I picked up the old 2005 series IDW put out called Containment.
Containment is not what you would call high concept. You have zombies in outer
space. The idea of a monster roaming on a spaceship was first developed in the
1950’s with IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE and, of course, 1979’s ALIEN. The
concept is pretty standard but that has never been a problem for fans of horror
movies. And, no, it will not be a problem for fans of horror comics either.
Personally, they can make as many monsters on a rampage in a spaceship comics,
movies, televisions shows, and operas as they please….just as long as it
delivers on the goods. That is, as long as the material is engaging and fun.
CONTAINMENT does deliver the goods as
far as providing mayhem and twists and turns. Zombies always make a mess of
things whenever they find their way into a mix. (Have a cannibal craze for
human flesh will do that to you) So, if you haven’t guessed by now, CONTAINMENT
is a decent horror outing that fans of science-fiction and zombies will dig.
