Monster Size Hulk

Anyone who reads this blog knows I am a huge fan of the Hulk as well as the old monster magazines and comics of the 1970’s. So, it will come as no surprise that I sincerely found the new release of Monster Sized Hulk #1 to be a welcome addition to my reading list. If you haven’t seen this title, it is an anthology featuring the Hulk meeting up with the Frankenstein Monster, Werewolf by Night, and Dracula. And, best of all, the Hulk in this issue is the good old dumb Hulk of the 1970’s. (He calls the Werewolf “Dogman”) The look and feel of the book is right out of the monster mags of three decades past although the writing is a bit more solid.

The opening tale featuring a gamma radiated Frankenstein Monster had me thinking. Marvel really missed the boat by never having a Hulk/Frankenstein match up in the 70’s. Also interesting in this title is a Peter David tale that is written in prose form which were prevalent in the magazines. However, they were often overlooked and not considered part Marvel’s continuity. It is nice to see an homage to them….

Short summary: This is a Hulk special well worth purchasing.
