Chinese Democracy
Yes, yes, yes.....I know that Chinese Democracy is not a comic book. However, I have NEVER deviated from the primary purpose of this blog before. But, I will make this a rare exception. The obvious reason is that I am a long time Guns N Roses fan and I was waiting for the release of Chinese Democracy quite eagerly. No, I have not read any reviews because I do not want to be influenced by anyone else's opinion prior to hearing the music for myself.
In a way, I guess you could make the argument that this ties in a little with comic books since a large portion of GNR's original audience was heavily into comics as well. No, not all the members of the audience, but a decent enough number was that it was noticeable. Comics often appeal to the disaffected and so does music. When GNR burst on the scene in the late 1980's with such an in your face attitude, those who had issues with authority were definitely drawn to the loud music they had to offer. Unfortunately, GNR never reached their potential due to various squabbles, problems, and in fighting. What a shame. They really could have been the next Rolling Stones. Instead, their career pegs them as being a little closer to the Velvet Underground. Ok, that statement is a stretch....
Anyway, Chinese Democracy has finally hit shelves. However, it would appear that the world has moved on. Sales are lagging and ot does not look like this particular CD will reach the multi-platinum status of other albums in the GNR catalogue. What a shame. Maybe the tour will be the saving grace.
