My Bloody Valentine

In my previous lengthy post, I mentioned that I saw the trailer for the remakes of Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine. I had read a number of the Friday the 13th comics and was going to comment on them, but I thought I’d talk about My Bloody Valentine instead.

Ok, I will mention a little bit about the Friday the 13 remake…..It actually looks scary. Truth be told, other than the first two films, Friday the 13th either slipped into silliness or retreads of prior films. This one looks a little bit more serious and that is a good thing. I like horror comedies but not horror movies loaded with unnecessary comic relief.

As for My Bloody Valentine, this was the horror franchise that wasn’t. The film was released by Paramount in 1981 and did a disappointing $5 million box office. That was WAY below the $40+ million Friday the 13th and Halloween did. There were so many slasher films flooding theaters in those days it would be tough for My Bloody Valentine to stand out….even though it was a decent B-movie horror film.

Interestingly, the remake will be in 3-D and that should help it draw a few extra bucks at the box office. More importantly, the LONG AWAITED uncut version of the original will finally see the light of day. Over 9 minutes was removed from the original and considered lost footage. (That’s why the hack edited ending is confusing) About 4 years ago, the footage was discovered when the last remaining uncut print was uncovered in storage. However, efforts to release it were unsuccessful. Well, unsuccessful until now. An uncut special edition is slated for release in January.

And we need a comic book based on the series as well!
