Rob Zombie to Direct a Sequel to Halloween
I am mentioning this because I provided a brief entry on the recent Halloween comics. And I am also mentioning it because it is cool news. And I am also mentioning it because Rob Zombie added Phd as a friend on his various MySpace pages.
Ok, I’ll get to the point and actually mention it!
Rob Zombie has signed on to direct a sequel to his remake of Halloween. This is somewhat of a shocker because Rob stated he was not interested in being involved with a Halloween sequel. (He is also hard at work on his new film Tyrannosaurus Rex which, I believe, is based on the comic The Nail) The folks at Dimension stated they would not be releasing a sequel to Halloween which was laughable on so many levels. When a the newest film in a long running franchise pulls in $50 million at the box office domestically why would you not continue the series? What is surprising is that Rob is willing to step into the director’s chair again. It seemed he was on board to exec produce but writing and directing was out. Then again, if they give Rob carte blanche to do whatever he wants then why would he turn it down?
Many folks didn’t like Zombie’s remake and while some of the criticism was valid, the film was hardly as bad as the other Halloween sequels that were produced. (HALLOWEEN: H20 was excellent and HALLOWEEN II was decent. The other films in the series, however, were atrocious) When will the Zombie’s Halloween sequel roll around? I am not sure if it will come out after T-Rex or if T-Rex will be put on hold…but, we’ll see. Either way, it is good to see Rob making horror movies because he is one of the VERY FEW people that understand the classic era of the genre. I think Rob is 42 years old so he has a LONG film career ahead of him. That is a good thing, for sure.
