Batman #1

Here is the much more well known cover to Batman #1. This cover provides a much different tone than the cover to Detective Comics #27. Mainly, this cover follows a much more whimsical look as it adds Robin, the Boy Wonder to the mix. It is decidedly less gritty that what appeared in Detective Comics. Perhaps this book was looking for a much younger kid’s audience than the one Detective Comics was looking for. Either way, it was the darker, grittier version of Batman that would eventually achieve the most notable success in the comics world…….

On a side note, the yellow cover is pretty goofy looking. This would seem to lend credibility to the notion that this book may have been intended to be more light-hearted than Detective Comics, although the differences between the two books was virtually non-existent. Anyway, it is still a decent cover that probably opened up many eyes of wonder in children when the book first appeared on drug store shelves back in the 1930’s.
