Daredevil is a comic book that has most definitely had its ups and downs over the years. At times the book alternated between being one of Marvel's very best sellers and at other times it hovered very closely to cancellation. When Daredevil first debuted it was a cheap knock off on Spiderman and it really was not until many years later it would develop its own unique edge and style. The debut issue of the book was ripe with problems as evidenced by this cover. This is most definitely NOT the way to debut a new hero. When you have to spend cover space featuring other top heroes, you may draw in a few curiosity buyers but you are also establishing the book's hero as a second stringer to the "real" heroes in the universe. Thankfully, Daredevil would emerge from such a shadow and become one of the best books (and, at times, one of the worst books) in Marvel's library.
Here's the classic cover from 1964....
