Solomon Grundy, Born on Monday, Gets a New Monthly Title in a Couple of Months
Solomon Grundy was one of those cool characters that never seemed to live up to his potential. I first remember seeing the villain waaaaaaaay back in 1979 on television in the absolutely idiotic and moronic television comedy Legends of the Superhero Roast where the character was played as comic relief. (Look it up on IMDB. I don’t want to even discuss it) Really, the character was never presented properly for much of his tenure in the DC Universe. It would seem he was the DC resident “powerful” villain ala The Rhino. He would pop up as a villain against Superman, Batman, and Swamp Thing. In time, thankfully, some of the better writers added more depth to the character by stressing the “earth elemental” aspects of the character. This was a good move in term of making him a more well rounded character. But, there is only so far you can go when the character appears as a villain sporadically in various titles. Now, AT LONG LAST, the Solomon Grundy will be getting his own new title. The a preview of the title has been released in the form of a Solomon Grundy – Faces of Evil one-shot and it is a solid story that displays the insanity, rage, and confusion that makes this over the top villain so memorable. The monthly title will be one I look forward to as it will cover the travels of Grundy as he tries to free himself from his curse.
