A PhD in Comic Book Literature....: Rare Mego Toy Superheros
Rare Mego Toy Superheros
Oh, bless YouTube for providing a forum for some of the cool, lost toy commercials. The poor quality of the videos lead me to believe they are multigeneration dupes of the original television broadcasts. Regardless of the quality of the video, it is tremendous that the footage still exists and has not been wiped out.
This is a cool Superman TV commercial from the late 1970s cashing in on the Superman motion picture. I would have loved to have had a General Zod doll. He looked pretty darn bad ass....And did anyone buy the Jor El Doll? It is probably worth a fortune these days.
These cool stretch dolls were obviously released to cash in the popularity of Stretch Armstrong. I wonder if they caught on in the marketplace when they were first released? More than likely, they had their fans. The Hulk is featured most prominently in this commercial probably because the Hulk TV series was on network at the time.
ma marketplace when they were released?
Here is a cool 2 minute clip of the entire 1976 Mego line up. And, BTW, what the hell is Tarzan doing in this line up????
And did we really need to know Green Arrow lives in the forest?
