Final Crisis and Ultimatum

I usually do not mention much about current issues because pretty much anyone reading this blog already purchased them and developed their own opinions. However, it would be unfair of me to not tip my hat to those writers and artists who are putting out top of the line material. Without solid stories, the comic industry would head into a tailspin like it did in the 1970's. Oh, I have read many excuses as to why the comic book industry was on the decline in the 1970s and the reason was obvious: the 1950s and 1960s were loaded with new, unique, and innovative titles. The 1970s were mainly boring retreads of the generic villain of the month variety.

But, I am getting off topic.

Marvel's Ultimatum and DC's Final Crisis breathe much life into the comic industry by presenting interesting and engaging story arcs. It is not enough to "announce" a major event. Marvel's House of M is a perfect example of a poorly constructed series that was generic and boring despite its attempts to deliver something new. Sure, they sold some books but I don't think it delivered much good will with customers.

Final Crisis and Ultimatum, however, deliver top of the line plots with intriguing twists and turns. That allows the comic book industry to at least remain healthy during an economic downturn that will invariably hit the comic industry.
