Follow Up on Warren Magazines
A few follow ups on the previous entry about Warren Publishing. I first discovered Warren after purchasing a copy of Famous Monsters and Eerie in 1982. Yes, I first saw the mags just before the cancellation in early 1983. Honestly, I thought the magazines were AWFUL and I found the awesome advertisements well, awesome. About two years later I discovered a number of old back issues at the late, lamented Comic Investments store in Philadelphia. I started purchasing older issues of FM and Creepy, Eerie, and Vampirella that were published in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The quality of the books was excellent until the 1970’s before they started to decline.
If you never read these classic books, here is some good news: hardcover reprints of the Eerie and Creepy Mags are being released every four months by Dark Horse Comics. I have not seen them but I am pretty sure they are excellent.
Also, there is a new Creepy Magazine coming forth from Dark Horse sometime later in 2009.
And, for those that love the old Warren Magazines, here is a cool cover gallery produced for Creepy and Eerie:

Here are the Eerie covers. My personal favorite is the one featuring the reproduction of a scene from a classic Universal horror Mummy film:

Creepy also had some awesome covers. You can check them out here as they have been reproduced and presented in youtube in a unique tribute video. Enjoy
And I REALLY like the Werewolf cover
