Man-Thing Issue One
I have always been a huge fan of the early Man-Thing stories. The original series was an outstanding horror comic and the muck man's appearance in the "team up" books of the 1970s and 1980s were fun too. This cover for Man-Thing number one is not what you would call a classic book, but it is an excellent image of the creature. What this particular cover has going for it is the mystery that it evokes, Namely, you are left with a desire to learn more about this odd creature. Is he a hero? Is he a villian? Is he something in between? Who knows? You have to buy the book to find out!
The cover also does a nice job of explaining the setting of the series. The drawing of the dark and foreboding swamp adds to the mystery of the local. This also provides a hint of what to expect in the book. Namely, chilling adventure and horror in the realm of the mysterious Everglades. No, it is not a classic cover....but it is a good one.
