Deathstroke Returns

A short while back I discussed a one-shot Face of Evil comic that featured Solomon Grundy. A new Face of Evil one-shot has been released and it features what appears to be the return of Slade Wilson – Deathstroke the Terminator – to a monthly title. The issue ends with the words “The Beginning” so we will undoubtedly see more of Mr. Wilson in a prominent role in the future.

I was a huge fan of the Deathstroke title in the 1990’s as Slade Wilson was a brilliant character. He was DC’s answer to the violent characters Marvel was prominently featuring at the time (Punisher, Wolverine, Venom, etc) and considering Marvel has returned to promoting some wildly violent heroes it is no surprise that Slade makes his return.

What makes this character a great character is the depth. Yes, this may seem like a clichéd statement but the fact remains it is true. Slade’s personal demons over the hell he brought upon his only family makes his a dark, tragic, yet viciously cruel character. There are not too many superheroes/villains that embody such a trait. Deathstroke the Terminator is one of them. That is what makes him such a unique character to follow.
