For those of you that haven’t yet read it, I would highly recommend a copy of Bill Mantlo: A Life in Comics. Long time fans of comic books will remember Bill as the writer of Spectacular Spiderman and The Incredible Hulk. As a little kid, I truly enjoyed Bill’s work as he understood what youngster’s look for in a superhero comic. His work was well crafted and he never talked down to his audience.


Bill stopped writing comics and I was curious as to why. I figured he would have been a staple on the comic scene for years to come. Then, I discovered the unfortunate truth as to why he disappeared. Bill was the victim of a tragic accident that left him with a serious brain injury. He is currently under the care of his loving family who look after him.

Recently, a book was published titled Bill Mantlo: A Life in Comics. This book is a biography of this great writer and it is a unique insight into his life. Proceeds of the book go towards Bill’s care and that is another reason to purchase it. It was published a couple years ago, but I am sure you can still order it from the publisher. It is great reading and a great cause.
