Gold Key's Star Trek
Does anyone remember the old Gold Key Comics of the 1960’s and 1970’s? Not many people do other than Star Trek fans because Gold Key produced the first Star Trek comic books ever published. They were also among the WORST Star Trek comics ever published as well. This is because Gold Key Comics were produced (I believe) in the Philippines at a time when VCRs were not available. Rumor has it many of the writers had never actually seen any of the episodes so the characterizations of the crew were wrong. This is why James T. Kirk yells things along the lines of “Galloping Galaxies!”
Sure, that sounds pretty bad but the books are still enjoyable from a time capsule perspective. I could name a lot worse comics that what Gold Key produced. So, don’t be too hard on their Star Trek books. They ain’t THAT bad. And, yes, there is a collected edition of the old Gold Key Star Trek comics.
Actually, there are a number of them. You can purchase them via Amazon.com. Me, I have a number of the originals so I don’t have to…..

Side note: even if VCR’s weren’t widely available in the early 1970’s, 16mm projectors were. Why didn’t Paramount provide Gold Key with 16mm prints of the episodes? Then again, they may have……
