Retro Blurbs

Do these little blurbs bring back any memories?

“Master of Kung Fu – Now on Sale Monthly!”

“The Missing Link is Back and The Hulk Wishes He’d Have Stayed Missing!”

“Spiderman 122 – The Most Shocking Issue of All!”

Does anyone remember these little typeset blurbs that would appear at the bottom of the comic books during the early 1970’s? Marvel phased them out in the late 1970s and I always wondered why. After all, they were pretty darn cool ad copy. When you came across them they were the perfect, simple plug for an upcoming book. Straight and to the point they let you know what to expect from other issues on the stands. Unfortunately, in the 1970s if your local pharmacy wasn’t carrying the titles you wanted you were out of luck. (Well, unless you purchased back issues through the mail at Mile High Comics) I always found these little blurbs to be a nice addition to the overall tone of the comics. A small touch, yes, but an effective one as well.
