Looking at Comic Book Adds
When I look over look over the ads in the new comic books, I have to say, some of the ads are fairly cool. There are a ton of zombie movies and video games out there. That means there are a ton of zombie movies and video game advertisements in the comics. It goes without saying, anything with a zombie is automatically cool. The great Roman philosopher Cicero said something to this effect a few thousand years ago…..
One of the cooler aspects of reading comic books back in the day was the presence of those weird and funky ads. Sea Monkeys, X-Ray Glasses, and record albums that claimed to be able to reveal all the deep, dark and deadly secrets of kung fu were right at your fingertips. (Really, only the Sea Monkey ads were legit) But, it was not so much the ads themselves that were cool. It was the fact that they created a world far beyond what you assumed it to be.
Remember, three decades ago, mail order was the only way to acquire certain items if they were not sold in your local department store. And, yes, some of these items had a tendency to be a little oddball. However, that is what often gave them their unique and original charm. So, as a regular part of this blog, I am going to start integrating reprints from advertisements from way back when. Perhaps it will bring a nostalgic tear to some of your eyes……
