Marvel DVDs

You do have to give Marvel and Lionsgate a lot of credit for their DVD animated movies. When they first announced this joint venture of animated films for the DVD market, I took a wait and see attitude. Namely, I was curious as to whether or not they would opt to go in the direction of the politically correct (ala Spiderman and His Amazing Friends) or stick with a style that truly captures the amazing aspects of the original comics. Actually, the DVDs have done neither. That is not a good or a bad thing. It just means they are different.

Marvel understands that much of its audience is an older demographics that prefers more mature storylines. This style of storytelling is present in this works to a great degree. Specifically, the tales tell the stories of the heroes are presented in a manner that would never be confused for being childish. They are a bit closer to the “Ultimate” universe in their approach which is why the themes are mature and complex. However, they are not written or presented in such a manner they would turn off traditional fans of the comic book medium.
