I just wanted to take a few minutes to mention that Watchmen has crept up into the top 20 of Amazon’s top 50 sellers. This is good to see because it was one of my all-time favorite graphic novels. Yes, it is a depressing series with a very dark outlook on life and humanity. However, it is a powerful work that at least provides an insight into how people would navigate their way through life in such a dystopia.

Nihilism is never pretty but there are those miserable elements that exist in our society. For many people, they are already live in a nihilistic world. Remember, different people have different experiences and outlooks on life. Those with a darker outlook can find the dark view of the world found in Watchmen to be a more realistic and palatable fantasy realm. No, this is not to say everyone who reads and enjoys the graphic novel is a deeply depressed person. Many people are drawn to the story due to its originality, narrative, mystery, character development, and artwork. For them, the depressing outlook is experienced in fleeting moments and then resolved in the bittersweet ending. For the more emotional, they may wallow in the darkness feeling that it is a more comfortable place to be.
