Mike Grell and The Warlord Return
Mike Grell has returned and he has brought with him The Warlord. The character of The Warlord has been around since 1975 and he can be considered a “B character” who first book lasted 133+ issues. I would assume that the popularity of Conan in Marvel helped fuel some of the popularity of The Warlord and when the popularity of sword and sorcery died somewhat in the 1980s, The Warlord went with it. Today, comic fans are a bit more interested in the quality of a particular story as opposed to being fans of a particular genre. That is why it is my hope that they spend a few dollars on picking up a copy of The Warlord the next time they visit their local comic shop. Grell has done a nice job with this reboot of the character and it is a well written series worth checking out. Did the Dark Horse revamps of the Robert E. Howard books have something to do with this? Maybe. But, the main thing here is that The Warlord is back and his book is well worth purchasing by Grell and sword and sorcery aficionados.
